Washington Tax Deed Sales

Washington Tax Deed Sales

Site Map

There are 39 counties in Washington. Tax collections and the sale of property for nonpayment of taxes (tax foreclosure sales) are handled at the county level by the County treasurer. Tax lien certificate auctions or sales are not conducted.  State law allows property owners to be delinquent on real property tax for a period of up to three years. After three years, the County has the authority to sell the property in a tax foreclosure sale.  Properties that do not sell at the tax foreclosure sale revert back to the county and are offered for auction or sale as "Tax Title" properties.

There is no extended redemption following the tax deed sale except in cases where the owner on the day of the sale was either a minor child or a person adjudicated to be legally incompetent. In those cases, there is a 3-year redemption period.
